New York is a woman, she’ll make you cry
And to her you’re just another guy
D.C. is a beltway boy, but please take note
That to him you’re just another vote

the lyrics are so good :)

She is always better with just voice and guitar—bared down to essentials, her incredible lyrics then shine. This is the problem with her “funky” period albums
(“99 degrees” and “Nine Objects”)–the music clashes with her Taoist profundity.

Kind of carries a different weight in light of current events, eh?

    I totally share your feelings…

I used to listen to this song last year, shortly after the album was released. I was alone in a big city (not NY though) and it sort of fit my feelings back then… Good song, wonderful artist.

I love this song too. The version that appears on Beauty and Crime has horns which I found unnecessary. The song stands strong enough on it’s own. I like this spare version so much better.

I love this song. and I love NYC. This song captures it so well… “she’s happy that you here, but when you disappear she won’t know that you’ve gone to say goodbye”. It reminds me when was going back to my normal (boring) life after a month in NYC… I wandered around the city for the last time and than on plane I felt like crying and “SHE” didn’t care. I was bit mad, because I felt like I was ripping part of my heart out and the dear NYC looked as usual herself… :)

Beautiful song. I have been trying to figure out the chords. The verse is easy enough (G# D# F C# G# D#)but what does she play in the chorus (the “and she’s every girl…” part)?

  • hughcree:

we will watch and see how the cd does!

  • JayMazz:

    wonderful!
